The Biological Clock

Even the slightest disturbance to our biological clock can cause a variety of disturbances. “Jet lag,” is one of the most common concerns which happen whenever your body is unaccustomed to the current time zone that you are in. In extreme cases, this can even cause a disruption in the heart rate that can cause a heart attack and even heart failure. Disturbances to our biological clock can also cause mental illness such as clinical depression and bi-polar disturbance (manic depressive).

Home remedies for The Biological Clock

• Even if you went to sleep at night, get up at the same time every morning. It’s important to wake up the same time every day regardless of the time that you went to sleep the previous night. This way, the body gets used to sleeping the number of hours it needs and not a set number of hours.
• In order to stabilize sugar levels in the body before going to sleep, eat a light, starchy snack. For example: a slice of bread, baked potato, apple, or other complex carbohydrates. It’s not a good idea to eat many sweet things like fruit juices as they cause blood sugar levels to fluctuate which adversely affects your sleep.
• Don’t drink tea, coffee or any soft drinks that contain caffeine before going to sleep. Be aware of caffeine sources you may not be aware of: chocolate, many non-prescription medicines (such as painkillers) and more.
• Sunbathing is a great way to set a cheerful mood.
• One of the best ways to treat jet lag is to soak your whole body with warm water mixed with iodized salt.
• Remove your shoes, lie down, and put your legs up. Relax.
• Take a long hot shower.
• Add two drops of rosemary essential oil to a cup of warm water. Drink twice a day.
• Exercise regularly so your body will crave sleeping at night.
• Maintain a balanced diet rich in protein for stronger stamina and energy during jet lag.
